It’s one of those sorts of questions that we all had as kids: Who would win in a fight out of my brother and your brother? Could Wonder Woman beat Cat Woman? And so on. Dreamworks has largely followed the same premise with their latest film Monsters vs Aliens. Unfortunately the Aliens have nothing in common with Ridley Scott’s beast other than they both come from outer space. But hey, this is for the kids and, well, Mum wouldn’t really approve of a slavering acid-for-blood Xenomorphs. As with many of today’s blockbuster kids CGI movies there’s a game tie-in, and this one is courtesy of Beenox (Bee Movie, Kung Fu Panda and more). Given the publishing power of Activision is this game a truly worthy film tie-in or just another lazy cash-cow piece of shovelware? |

As the game industry has grown over the years, more and more games are coming out that are movie tie-ins, with almost every major film release having a game released alongside it. Then there are occasions when a game will be so good that it will inspire a film to tell the story, such as Doom or Hitman. Rarer still are the games that are seen as sequels to a previous film, such as John Woo’s Stranglehold (with Hard Boiled being the film prequel). Wheelman starring Vin Diesel doesn’t fall into any of these current categories. It hasn’t used a film for inspiration, and there is currently no film being done about the game. Instead, the game is set up to play out like a film, with a Hollywood star in the leading role and a storyline that they hope will grip you and pull you in. Unfortunately however, following the story can be as difficult as trying to follow a foreign film that doesn’t have any subtitles. |

An unusual thing happened the other day, which I wasn’t really used to. I was beaten by seven different people on one game. This probably doesn’t sound too unusual, especially if you’ve seen me play Gears of War 2 online. What made it unusual was the fact it was by people who have never played an Xbox 360 before- In fact, most hadn’t picked up a pad since the mid-nineties. I’ll admit, it stung a little to spend a solid few hours of Winner-Stays-On constantly handing the pad over to people who didn’t know their left triggers from their guide buttons. |

Have you ever wondered what goes through the mind of Quentin Tarantino? What kind of disturbing dreams he might have? Maybe he just dreams of fluffy bunny rabbits roaming fields happily, but I suspect that really he dreams of a world like Afro Samurai. Afro Samurai is probably the most violent game I have ever seen. If the Daily Mail bothered to pay attention to games other than Grand Theft Auto or Manhunt, the entire office would have a heart attack watching just the first five minutes of Afro Samurai. The game is truly unrelenting with its depictions of violence and excessive use of strong language. If ever a game was deserving of an 18 certificate, this is it. If you are a prude, stop right here. You won't like this game one bit; I haven't even explained the sexual references in the game yet. This is most definitely a game for open minded adults, and no one else. |

It's time to dig out those dusty old single player games that you haven't got round to finishing yet. Xbox Live is going to be out of service for approximately 24 hours from 8am on the 16th June (Tuesday). Before you get excited about new dashboard features, this maintenance is only the ground work to prepare for all the new goodies announced for XBL during E3 2009. The likes of Facebook, Twitter and Sky TV will not appear on our Xbox’s' until later in the year. |
