Major League Gaming have today announced that its Spring Championship recently held in Anaheim attracted over 4.7 million unique online viewers. To make a comparison, 3.5 million unique viewers tuned in for all 2011 Pro Circuit weekends combined. Staggering!

Forbes posted a graphic (see below) from MLG’s Press Office earlier. According to the stats, at one point, the Championship had 437,000 peak concurrent online viewers – the previous MLG record was 241,000 for the 2011 National Championship. Furthermore, more than 20,000 spectators attended in person over the weekend.

It is definitly another year of tremendous growth for eSports and MLG. Many publishers have already made moves to court the ever growing community, like Take Two and Ubisoft. The next logical step would be a firm presence on TV, something which is reportedly in the discussion stage with CBS of America.
