About

XboxGameZone is a UK based gaming community bringing our users all the latest in news, features and reviews. We are an independent non-profit community established in 2004 and while we do hate the old clichés XboxGameZone truly is a community run by gamers for gamers.

The XGZ community first came together in the summer of 2004 through the combined efforts of three friends, Lisa Bidder, Lee Davies and Rich Best. At first no more than a forum the community soon grew and in December 2004 the main site was launched. Within months our position as a reputable community site was officially acknowledged as Microsoft invited XboxGameZone into the XCN (Xbox Community Network).

From the early days online tournaments were a regular feature of XboxGameZone rapidly earning a reputation for unique, fun and fair events and in 2005 we celebrated our 1st Birthday with the UK’s first large scale Girls vs. Boys tournament ‘The Battle of the Sexes’.

The event which took place across the August bank holiday weekend and enjoyed sponsorship from Xbox, Ubisoft & 2K Games saw hundreds of players from the UK participate in excess of 25 matches across a wide selection of titles including Ghost Recon, Halo, Project Gotham Racing and many more. A huge success The Battle of the Sexes went on to feature in the Official Xbox Magazine. This was not to be the last time XGZ featured in OXM thanks to our popular and successful events.

Over the years XGZ has seen various cosmetic alterations but the core service remained the same until 2011. After moving to a new content system we reviewed how our users interacted with us, with the increasing popularity of social networking the traditional forum based system was no longer promoting the interaction we had always enjoyed. With this in mind February 2011 saw XboxGameZone’s biggest change to date with the decision to remove the community forums, a decision which is by no means marks the end of our community in fact the beginning of a whole new thriving community with fresh discussion and interaction, as members can participate through article comments, our official Twitter @XboxGameZone and our official Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/XboxGameZone

Now in its 8th year XboxGameZone is one of a small number of UK fansites still remaining from the early days of Xbox Live and we’re not going anywhere ;)
