Microsoft has today confirmed at CES 2010 that Project Natal will be coming to Xbox 360 for Christmas 2010. Project Natal is a new 3D camera technology that will literally enable players to control games using their entire body.

The Natal system is said to map your body in 3D with 30 inputs per second and is promising to be accurate enough to even map facial expressions. Apparently this magic is not down to Voodoo, but 50% hardware and 50% software. This balance indicates that software developers should be able to have significant influence on how Natal works with their games. Talking of developers – it seems that many are currently working on their Natal projects to coincide with the Christmas release.

3D motion sensing control seems to be the ‘in-thing’ with Sony also developing the technology for the PS3. Whether jumping around the living room will revolutionise the way we play our games remains to be seen. What’s your view on the technology and how would you like to see it used?

Pricing has yet to be confirmed, but there is strong speculation that Natal should retail at around the £50 mark. We’ll keep you posted on the latest developments with both hardware and software.
