"Wacca, wacca, wacca, wacca"… That dear reader is the sound of, not Pacman, but a helicopter! And not any old helicopter, this one’s “fierce”, it has an aggressive haircut, big teeth and bristles with missiles, erm well, the last one’s true at least. Coming this autumn, brought to us by Activision is “Apache: Air Assault”, a dedicated helicopter combat sim for the Xbox 360.

Behind Apache: Air Assault is Russian developer, Gajin Entertainment; the team that created the rather good WWII air combat game, IL-2 Sturmovic. The game will feature a variety of Apache attack choppers kitted out with the latest military gizmos and badass weaponry. The campaign will take place 16 multi-stage missions involving air and ground strike operations in various real-world locations.

“No games on next-gen consoles have been dedicated to helicopter combat simulation, but that is about to change this autumn”, said David Oxford, Activision Publishing. “Apache: Air Assault offers fun for diehard military enthusiasts and flight sim fans as well as gamers who just want to blow stuff up.”

The campaign in Apache: Air Assault can be played alone, with a friend on local two player co-op, or shoot chunks out of each other on various multiplayer gametypes such as “Capture the LZ” over Xbox Live.

Right, I’m off to make some more helicopter noises whilst listening to “Flight of the Valkyrie”. Guess the film XGZ readers.
